Bryony's Ride for Rail Kids

Hi all, my name is Bryony, I'm 12 years old and I have set up this fundraiser in aid of cause that I strongly believe in.

The Railway Children protects and supports kids who have no where to go and nobody to turn to. Many children run away from home or are forced to live on the streets where they are vulnerable and in danger, so this charity does its best to reach the children before they are swept into a life on the streets. To find out more, visit https://www.railwaychildren.org.uk

I first got interested in raising money for The Railway Children though my school; a charity for my form group to donate to. I had been planning to do a bike ride and be sponsored by some friends and family, but the more I looked into it, the more I realised how important this charity really is.

As a child who has everything she could possibly want and need - a loving family, good friends and a warm roof over my head - I was horrified by the reality of kids my own age being forced to run from home and survive on the streets.

I really wanted to do something that would be more than just raising money through school, so I began investigating online. I eventually came across GoFundMe and read through some of the awe-inspiring fundraising campaigns that others have set up.  After reading at least 7 of these, I knew that this was how I should fundraise in a way that meant so much more.

I’ve set up this page with the challenge of cycling 150 miles by March 29th. This is something that I’m going to be doing with my dad, but unfortunately we can only get on our bikes on the weekends, and of course when the weather’s good.

I love mountain biking and over this pandemic, we have been doing lots of local riding. I thought I could take advantage of this and challenge myself while raising money for a really important cause.

My aim is to raise as much money as I can while I’m cycling, but I have set the goal for £300 as a main amount for me to reach.

We’ll be using local off-road trails and cycle routes around my town, which includes some of the national cycle network, all done within lockdown rules. If, however, the restrictions are eased and we are able to travel elsewhere before the end of March, we will explore other cycle locations.

Please support me and my cause by helping me raise as much money as I can by March 29th. Your donations will be what give me the drive and motivation to reach my goal of 150 miles - but if I go beyond that, it would mean the world to not only me, but to the kids that the money will go to.

Thank you so much!
