On March 6th, 2026, I was at work when I suddenly began experiencing the same intense pain I had felt years ago in my abdomen. After trying to wait it out for a couple of hours, I knew something was wrong and went to the emergency room. I was immediately admitted, placed on an NG tube, and then transferred to Ascension Bay Medical Center, where I was hospitalized for 8 days.

For the first four days, doctors tried to avoid surgery and hoped the NG tube would resolve the obstruction. Unfortunately, it didn’t. During that time, I endured severe pain, two allergic reactions to medications, and was unable to eat or drink anything for six days.

By day five, I had to undergo emergency surgery, the same surgery I had in 2021. This time was even more serious. There were two obstructions in my small intestine, and my surgeon had to remove an additional 40 cm. of my intestine. That portion has been sent to pathology as we search for answers, and we are still waiting on results.

I was discharged on March 13th with 11 staples in my abdomen. I am now on bed rest for at least three weeks and recovering at my mom’s home as I currently need help with basic daily tasks like walking, showering, preparing meals, and even getting up on my own. This all happened during midterms week, forcing me to miss significant school time and request extensions from my professors. On top of that, I will be out of work for about four-five weeks. I live independently and am responsible for all of my own bills. While I do have health insurance, I have not yet received the hospital bill but I know it will be overwhelmingly high. I am also currently taking 11 different medications as part of my recovery.
