Brylee was born on 11/19/2012 with severe kidney problems. Within the first year she had 2 major surgeries in efforts to repair her kidneys what she was born with which left her with only 1 of her kidneys functioning properly. Over the next 5 years she has battled with several trips to U of M Children's Hospital, Urgent Care and Family Pediatrician related to her Kidneys. She has been on medicine for the biggest part of her 6 years.
Things have taken a turn for the worse for our sweet Brylee. Last October she went to see her Kidney Dr. for her annual checkup which they were told that she didn't need to come back for 2 years. 2 days later they got a call asking to repeat her urine sample because she had an elevated protein levels in her urine. After the 2nd sample they were asked to come into the U of M children Hospital to see her Kidney Dr. to do a ultrasound.......well that is when her life changed. We found out she was in stage 3 kidney failure and her bladder was enlarged and not completely draining. Brylee went in for a visit with her Kidney Surgeon this past week which the Dr. is very concerned her kidneys are declining very fast and if he doesn't go in and try to slow it down she will need a transport soon. Brylee is scheduled for surgery on 3/14 in efforts to repair her bladder with a port attached to her bladder that will resemble a belly button with a cap on it. Every night her parents will have to attach a urine bag that will stay in place while she sleeps to keep her bladder draining. Dr. will also try to repair any of the tubes going from the kidneys to the bladder that are very enlarged. Dr. hope is that once he is in there he can find what is causes her rapid declining and will be able to slow it down to give her a few more years before she will need a kidney transplant. If the Dr. can't seem to find the cause her being put on the transplant list could come sooner than we would hope.
The family is not a huge fan of asking for help but this has rocked their world with the expected medical bills and the future of a Kidney transplant . The family does not have a goal just appreciates anyone that would like to donate and join TeamBrylee:)
