Help Save our Son Bryer Batesole

Bryer was born with a rare condition called Total Intestinal Aganglionosis. ALL of the ganglion cells(nerve cells) are missing from his small intestine and large intestine. He is left with 15 cm of small intestine.This means that Bryer is unable to process any food or nutrients outside of an IV line. To survive, he will be given total parenteral nutrition (TPN). While TPN will nourish him with the nutrients he needs to grow, there is a chance it will cause significant damage to his liver, causing liver failure. There is also a chance the TPN could destroy the access vein. There are only 6 access veins and if each of these are destroyed, there would be no way to nourish him. Additionally, there is a very high chance of infection either in his gut (enterocolitis) or from catheter-related sepsis. On the other hand, there is a chance that he could live on TPN for years. There is also the possibility that Bryer would be able to have an intestinal transplant. In which case, Bryer would then be able to eat "normal" food. Even more exciting is some of the work doctors are doing regarding stem cell use. We are currently exploring all of our options. Obviously this has been incredibly traumatic, but we believe God gave us this child for a reason. We love this sweet boy and we are committed to giving him the very best life possible. He has already changed our lives and we feel blessed to have the love and prayers from so many of our friends.
