Bryce's Medical Journey

When you find out that you are going to become parents, you get a swirl of incredible emotions.  You often wonder what the baby will look like, how the pregnancy and delivery will go, and how much your life will change once the baby enters the world.   In our household, we are strong believers that everything happens for a reason.  We also believe that you should never be quick to judge because everyone has a unique and amazing story.   On March 17, 2016, Bryce's story began.  He was born at 1:58 am weighing 8 pounds 4 ounces and 21 inches long.

This is Bryce and this is his story!

Bryce was born with a very rare condition called congenital hypopituitarism. Statistics show that 1 in every 4000 people will be born with this.  In a nutshell, this means that Bryce's pituitary gland is underdeveloped and not able to produce all of the needed hormones to support his body.  Without these endocrine hormones, the body is unable to survive.  Therefore, Bryce will need to take a few different medications every day for the rest of his life.                   The good news: with the correct dosage of medications, Bryce will be able to lead a normal and healthy life!

Each month, Bryce has to go to the hospital to get blood work and see his endocrinologist.  She is able to adjust the dosage of his medications in order for him to remain healthy.  Each day, Bryce takes thyroid medication every morning, cortisol medication three times per day, and gets a growth hormone shot injection every night before bed.  Although this is not at all fun to give a little baby, we do so for Bryce to remain healthy.  Bryce is such a strong baby--he has been through more than we have ever imagined!

At the end of May 2016, Bryce started needing a growth hormone injection as his height and weight started to fall off the growth charts.  Being a baby, Bryce needs to be on a specific growth hormone medication that is preservative free.  His endocrinologist lead us to a medication that was just that, preservative free and perfect for a baby.  We began giving these shots to Bryce each night.  As the days went on, Bryce started growing again.  He gets stronger by the day and his progress is out of this world.  Since these growth injections, Bryce can now hold his head up, roll over, and can now sit up! He is starting to meet all of those baby milestones that you strive to see as parents.
The downfall: Bryce's insurance has denied coverage over this growth hormone.  We are expected to pay $800 a month.  This expense combined with doctor's visits, blood tests, and everyday costs of a house, car, grocieries, etc. makes life very stressful at times.  Both of us work full time jobs in order to give Bryce the best life possible.  We will continue to do everything in our power to make ends meet and stay strong as a family.

This is one of the hardest things for us to do, however, we are asking for your help! Our goal for Bryce's Medical Journey GoFundMe is $10,000. This will cover 1 year of hormone medications as well as Bryce's other medical expenses.  We also ask for prayers as we countinue down this journey with Bryce.  It's definitely not easy, but we have become so much stronger because of it.  At the end of the day, seeing this little guy so happy is worth everything in the world to us.

Please feel free to share Bryce's story.  From the bottom of our hearts, please consider helping us! It truly takes a village to raise a child.
