Bryce was born on May 5th, 2017 weighing in at 7 pounds, 3 ounces. He has always been a very happy, loving and sweet baby boy.
At each of Bryces developmental appointments, we noticed he had low muscle tone and was falling more and more behind the "normal" range for development. At his 6 month appointment, his pediatrician recommended doing genetic testing (blood work) to see if his chromosomes were normal. At first, they believed he had Down Syndrome (for various reasons).
Test restults came back last thursday that he did not infact have Down Syndrome but was missing part of his 4th chromosome. We are taking him to a Genetic Specilist at UNC next Friday to get more answers on what this means for Bryces future.
Bryce is unable to roll, sit up, hold his head up during tummy time or hold him self up while being held. This has caused the back of his head to become very flat. His Physical Therapist suggested him get evaluated for a Cranial Helmet. He was evaluated this week and was diagnosed with severe brachycphaly and was highly reccomended for a helmet.
He will need to be in the helmet for 23 hours a day for 4 months.
We are still working to get our insuance to approve the helmet. The total cost of the helmet and his treatment plan is $2,500 (without insurance). If insurance approves, it is $2,100.
