Bryce’s Complicated Birth

Donation protected
Hi my name is Adam Mccoul. I’m fundraising for my newborn son’s medical complications.
On November 21, 2022 at 7:07am I received a phone call from my girlfriend Erika Dean who was in a great deal of pain at work and 34 weeks pregnant. I rushed to get her from work and to the hospital. Little did I know how bad things were about to get…by the time we arrived at the emergency room Erika was on the floor of the car writhing in pain. A woman named Cheryl took her wheel chair and as soon as I said pregnant she started to run and Erika was gone. I found myself at the labor and delivery wing not 4 minutes later and as soon as I stepped off the elevator the nightmare scenario began to unfold. It took what seemed like forever for my mind to put together that all the alarms and people running to the delivery room were running to save my family. I stood outside the delivery room and watched as people ran back and forth, in and out, the whole time people staring at me but no one said a word…As I started to wrap my head around what was happening I realized I couldn’t hear him crying…then I could see a team of people doing CPR and ventilating my newborn son. At the same time I could hear more doctors at Erika’s bedside getting concerned about her bleeding not stopping. After 10 minutes of CPR and 2 adrenaline shots to restart his heart, Bryce was on his way to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. They took me with Bryce and took a few quick pictures of us before they moved him because they were unsure if he would make the trip upstairs.
I was totally in the dark about Erika’s condition because they were too at the time. Eventually they were able to get her uterus to clamp down and stop bleeding and she was finally stable. Her uterus separated from the placenta and that’s when and why Bryce began to suffocate and she began to bleed. She lost 1.5 liters of blood internally and almost didn’t make it.
Bryce Ian McCoul suffered from Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy due to lack of oxygen and blood flow during birth. He was put on a cooling mat to lower his body temperature for 72 hours to try to minimize brain damage. After a rewarming period he had an MRI and widespread damage to the brain was suspected. We are almost 3 weeks into this scary ride and have yet to hear baby Bryce cry. He has had EEG’s EKG’s MRI’s, all kinds of tests run and blood gases taken constantly. He is being fed with an NG tube through his nose until he can gain enough weight to have a more permanent feeding tube surgically put in. Then hopefully we can start to work towards taking him home one day if he can continue to heal and show small improvements.
Your donations will be used to help offset the staggering medical bills. I never wanted to have to make a choice for my ailing child based on funds, so with your continued support we can makes the best choices for his recovery.
Thank you so much for listening to Bryce’s story, we appreciate your time and support and can never thank you enough.
