Bryce's Spinal Surgery

Donation protected
I am raising money for my grandson Bryce. He has Quadriplegic Spastic Cerebral Palsy with acquired dystonia. What this means is that his arms and legs are affected with high muscle tone.  Acquired Dystonia is a common side effect from the brain damage it is very mild and mainly only effects the muscle function in his arms and hands. For the past 5 years he has been doing therapy, botox treatments to help relax the muscle in his legs, serial casting and he has leg braces. Unfortunately he is out of non surgical option.

My son and daughter in law have been taking him to a neurologist in their home town of Houston working with a team to get him ready for SDR (Selective dorsal rhizotomy) surgery. He was scheduled to receive this surgery towards the end of 2020. Do to unseen circumstances regarding their health insurance they had to push the surgery to a sooner date and has put my son and daughter in law in a financial bind. They otherwise would have time during the year to save up for their deductible but now only have 3 weeks.  If they can not pay their deductible at the time of the surgery then he can not receive the surgery. The insurance company will no longer be in network with the hospital that the surgery is preformed after March 2020 so waiting is no longer an option.

His surgery is scheduled for February 3, 2020. He will be in the hospital for 3 days after the surgery and then moved to a in patient treatment facility for 4-6 weeks. During his time in the the treatment facility he will be learning how to re-walk and strengthen his muscles. After his stay in the in patient treatment facility he will have to go to out patient physical therapy 3 days a week for 8 weeks and then 1 day a week for the remainder of the year.

If you would like more information regarding this surgery and neurologist that is preforming it. Here is a link to his page with a video.
