Bryar's Rehab Fund

Hello Everyone,

I am creating this Go-Fund-Me with Gail (Bryar's Grandma) on behalf of my best friend (her daughter) and my nephew Bryar (her grandson).

Bryar is undergoing surgery again, he has Hydrocephalus (a neurological disorder caused by an abnormal buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricles (cavities) deep within the brain. This excess fluid causes the ventricles to widen, putting harmful pressure on the brain's tissues). Which was caused from a premature rupture of the Amnotic Sac, causing him to be born prematurely at 28 weeks.

As a result of this neurological disorder he has a VP shunt in his head which was put in shortly after he was born, to help drain the excess fluid. He was also diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy which needs to be treated by attending physiotherapy and occupational therapy. He receives botox injections in his thighs and calves to help loosen the muscles in his legs to help him walk easier.

From birth until 2 years old, he has had 4 surgeries total. At Sick Kids hospital on June 16th 2023, Bryar will undergo a Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy which is a surgery done on the lower spinal cord to reduce spasticity in the legs, which will hopefully help him walk. He is currently using AFO braces to keep his feet flat, and a walker/wheelchair. This surgery is life changing procedure for kids with Cerebral Palsy, with the goal of getting Bryar to walk without the use of his walker.

Due to this surgery, Justine will be unable to attend work while assisting Bryar in recovery which is 3 months of rehab at Holland Bloorview . This will make the costs of living much harder to afford while taking time off.

If she gets accepted into housing through the Rehab facility, it will cost $50 a day, which alone is $4500 for the 3 months, not including paying for her rent, utilities, food etc.

We are trying very hard to eliminate some of the financial burden on Justine, so she can focus on Bryar without added stress she does not need.

We very humbly are now asking for the help from the community.
