Bryan’s Brain Cancer Battle

Donation protected
In May 2016 our brother Bryan had a seizure while working in the garden and he was rushed to the emergency room. That visit to the E.R. was the beginning of Bryan’s journey with brain cancer. The doctors would soon remove a large tumour from Bryan’s left frontal lobe and a biopsy confirmed it was, in fact, an Anaplastic Oligodendroglioma - a rare high-grade primary brain tumour.  Following surgery, Bryan underwent chemotherapy and radiation.

He was truly remarkable through it all… he kept in high spirits and made those around him smile and laugh with his humour. The tumour was gone, he returned to work part-time and life went on as it does.

Through follow-up MRI scans in August 2018, Bryan received the unfortunate news that another tumour was growing. Again it was found in his frontal lobe, this time very close to his speech and motor centre of the brain. The doctors were surprised to see that it recurred so quickly, however, surgery was an option for treatment and Bryan so bravely agreed to go under again.

Remarkably the surgery was a success and we were all incredibly relieved to learn that Bryan had no obvious speech or motor impairments, despite how close the surgeon had to get to those areas. We recently received the results of the biopsy and it is again a grade III Anaplastic Oligodendroglioma which the doctors consider to be more aggressive due to its quick recurrence. The next step on Bryan’s journey is to receive aggressive chemotherapy over the next year. Doctors have informed him that he will be unable to work during this time.

The reason we have started this fundraiser for Bryan is to help reduce financial pressure by raising money to assist with his living and medical expenses over this next year or so.  It would also be wonderful to use some of the money raised to help Bryan achieve a few goals on his bucket list and make some long-lasting memories.

Any amount donated will help, and your kindness will give Bryan one less thing to worry about while he fights for his life.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Bryan’s Sisters,

Lisa & Lee-Anne
