Hi. My name is Leslie Cohen. I have created this account on behalf of the family of Bryan Case who tragically passed away in April. I did not know him personally and only know of his story through his sister, Leslie, my son's first grade teacher. The enduring love and joy she feels for her brother shines through her eyes, even now behind her tears of loss. The pain she feels in her own loss and that for Bryan’s wife and daughters is what has led me to appeal to you.
Bryan Case, a devoted husband and father of three girls, was a teacher and coach. A Cal Lutheran graduate of 1986, he earned a spot on the track and field team successfully competing in pole vault and went on to coach the event there for 15 years. By day he taught history at Moorpark High School and was regarded by his students as an excellent teacher who transformed history into a series of fun and exciting stories.
"Mr. Case was one of the best teachers I ever had... He made history so lively, interesting and fun to learn about... It saddened our class so much when we got the news that he passed away in April. We love you Mr. Case!"
"[He was a] Really cool history teacher. He made me love history. Now, I'm thinking about being a history teacher myself. That should tell you something. Plus, he had all these cool side stories about the events."
Bryan loved sports, the LA Kings, mountain biking and cars, but nothing more than his wife, Patricia, and their three girls, Molly, Mary Kate and Megan.
It is for them that I write this.
Never wanting his family to worry, Bryan took care of everything. He paid the bills. He repaired their home. He was the quintessential "man of the house", even up to final weeks of his battle with cancer. His family lost their “everything” when he passed. They said their last goodbye to their friend, mentor, partner, coach, emotional and financial support. The entire foundation of their collective lives is gone…and now they need our help. Desperately.
Their condo, for months, has been in a state of disrepair. With medical bills piling up and cancer winning the fight, holes in drywall, broken appliances and gas leaks had to wait. The Cases have an outstanding $10,000 loan on the condo. Their health insurance was provided by his teaching job which has lapsed. They no longer have insurance and can't afford it to pay privately.
Teachers are amongst the greatest resource we have for the future of our children. They also work as one of the most undervalued positions in our country. Great teachers like Bryan change lives for the better and never ask for anything in return. They support and drive people do great things and to become more than they could have ever imagined. Bryan never needed credit. The successes of those whom he touched was reward enough. Now that he has left us, we have opportunity to thank him, to finally give back something to show how much he has meant to those around him.
Please allow this family to grieve without having to worry about how to survive. Anything you can spare will help alleviate stress for Bryan’s family by helping them afford the funeral costs, outstanding debts, medical, insurance and so much more. Your generosity means so much to the Cases.
