Bryan Ballard was shot and killed on the night of Thursday, November 17th. He had a great sense of humor, loved people, enjoyed riding his bike and loved his dog, Rocky. He loved adventure and lived on the edge, including stints as a pilot and scuba diving instructor. Everyone who knew him enjoyed his stories and his bold, fun, personality.
His wishes were to be cremated and have his ashes spread along the Guadalupe River.
As far as we know he didn't have an insurance policy, but he was loved by many and we would like to have a memorial service for him.
Bryan is survived by a son (Cas), daughter (Shauna), and grandson (Josiah).
Press Release from Kerr County Sheriff's Office:
On Thursday November 17, 2016 at approximately 8:50 pm, Kerr County Sheriff's Office received a call of a structure fire and possible shooting at the Crazy Horse RV Park located in the 100 block of Thrill Hill off of Highway 479 in West Kerr County.
The Mountain Home Volunteer Fire Department and Kerr County Deputies responded. They found one mobile home that was on fire, and the front door on a 5th wheel trailer was open. A deceased male who had multiple gunshot wounds was laying inside the 5th wheel trailer. He was later identified as Donald (Bryan) Ballard, a white male, DOB: January 7, 1954.
At approximately 9:15 pm, a subject by the name of Benjamin Pierce, DOB: March 11, 1955, showed up at Kerr County Sheriff's Office and stated that at one time he was the maintenance man for the Crazy Horse RV Park. He and another tenant, Donald Ballard, had an ongoing feud over Mr. Ballard's dog constantly barking, and the owner of the park fired Mr. Pierce over the way he handled the situation.
At approximately 8:45, Mr. Pierce went to one of the owner's trailers, which was unoccupied at the time, and set it on fire. He then went to Mr. Ballard's trailer with a 44 cal. handgun and a 45 cal. Handgun and started shooting at Mr. Ballard's trailer and at Mr. Ballard. Mr. Ballard was able to return fire striking Mr. Pierce once in the buttocks.
Mr. Pierce was transported to a hospital in San Antonio for treatment of the non-life threatening wound and will be charged with Murder and Arson upon his release.
