This fundraiser is for Bry Ronca and family. Bry suffered an aneurysm. She is in a lot of pain and doesn’t tolerate light, so we sit in a darkened room with her. The pain makes her nauseous as well. It really is like a migraine on steroids. It’s so hard to see her in so much pain, but this is part of the healing process.
The neurosurgeon came in and talked us through it all. He said the critical days will be next Tuesday/Wenesday because that is typically when the brain acts up around the procedure they did, which can cause vasospasms that can lead to a stroke. Unfortunately, they said her age, gender, and the kind of aneurysm she has make it a perfect storm for the potential of that happening. (We thought older people would be more affected by an aneurysm, but apparently not this kind?) It is part of the reason she will be here for at least 2 weeks—they do hourly tests and daily brain scans in an effort to prevent that from happening.
For those who like the technical stuff:
It is a ruptured anterior communicating artery aneurysm—which is a common artery for an aneurysm
They did an EVD, which is where they went up through her wrist vein into her brain to place a coil to stop the bleeding. (These people are amazing!) Then they did a process (which I forgot to write down) that is relieving her pressure by pulling fluid from her brain because her own brain isn’t doing it on its own. The fluid is captured in what basically looks like an IV bag, and we hope it is less and less red every day because there should not be blood floating around in her brain.
Bry doesn’t get paid unless she’s at work, and with the unexpected medical bills I know she could use all the help she can get.
