Medical, travel & lodging for Masons surgery!
Donation protected
In 2022, Mason suffered a knee injury while playing basketball. Many, many months of physical therapy, Ortho appointments, wearing different knee braces, CTs, MRIs, XRays and consults later, he needs to have surgery.
As we all know, Mason has played football since he was 8 years old. Masons goal was to make it thru his sophomore year football season. The season went well, considering his pain and lack of mobility. Ice packs, crutches and ibuprofen were his go-to. Although he couldn't play or practice to his full ability, he made it!
After considering surgery here in Duluth, Mom thought it was best to seek a second opinion at TCO, in Edina, with a nationally known knee surgeon. At their consult last week, he agreed to perform his surgery! This will be a total reconstruction of his MPFL (an important ligament that holds the kneecap in place) and debridement (clean-up) of loose cartilage and bone fragments to hopefully help with the tracking of his knee. We will know after surgery if any additional procedures will be needed in the future.
Mason will have a long road of recovery. Firstly, to be non-weight bearing for 6 weeks. Rehabbing with a cryotherapy machine 4x/day at home, along with several months of PT. His ultimate goal is to be pain free, and strong enough to play football this year, so let's cheer him on!!
So why are we asking for help? Since the surgery is out of town, there are travel expenses that need to be covered. They are required to stay in town (2.5 hours away from home) for Physical Therapy for 10 - 14 days after surgery. This is their biggest expense, and that's where we come in! Any little bit helps, especially since Jen won't be able to work for at least 2 weeks.
