"Fighting for His Life, Fighting for Justice: Help Eric Overcome Injustice and Brutality"
- Eric Mayshack, healthy and happy, before the tragic events that changed his life.
July 17, 2024: The Arrest and the Beating
After being tased by police officers in Houston, Texas, 36-year-old Eric Mayshack was immediately handcuffed. But what should have ended in his restraint quickly turned into something far worse. While Eric was completely defenseless, the officers began to beat him—punching, kicking, and stomping on him even as he lay on the ground. His back teeth were cracked and chipped from blows to his face, and his ribs and lung were damaged beyond belief.
Despite an officer admitting on record that he punched Eric in the face, the police report claimed that Eric’s severe injuries were the result of him “falling” when he was tased. But we know that’s not the truth.
The Hospital Trip and Unbelievable Discharge
When emergency responders finally arrived, Eric was taken to the hospital, his body already battered from the attack. Incredibly, within just an hour, he was discharged—far too soon—and immediately transported to the Harris County Detention Center for booking. His injuries were far more severe than anyone realized.
Immediate Return to the Hospital: A Life-Threatening Condition
Not long after arriving at the detention center, Eric began to experience extreme difficulty breathing. It was only then that he was rushed back to the hospital. This time, doctors discovered that Eric’s left lung had collapsed, a condition that required immediate treatment to save his life. For three days, Eric remained in the hospital, fighting to recover from the trauma he had endured.
The Fight for Family Contact: Denied and Alone
During his hospital stay, Eric repeatedly asked to call his family. He needed them to know where he was, what had happened to him. He begged to speak to his mother, Judy, but those pleas were denied. Meanwhile, Judy and Eric’s girlfriend were frantically searching for him, desperate to find out what had happened. But for days, they were left in the dark.
- Eric and his mother, Judy, share an unbreakable bond built on love and loyalty. Through every challenge, Judy has stood by her son’s side, offering unwavering support and strength. Their connection is a testament to the power of a mother’s love, as she continues to fight for justice on Eric’s behalf.
Discharged to the Detention Center: Vulnerable and Defenseless
After three days in the hospital, despite his serious injuries, Eric was discharged and sent back to the Harris County Detention Center. Even though he was still unwell, instead of being placed in the infirmary, where he could be monitored, he was put in the general population. The medication he was given made him groggy and defenseless, unable to protect himself in an environment that posed serious danger.

- These photos were taken a week after the incident. While some of Eric's injuries had started to heal, the signs of the brutal beating he endured are still evident.
Facing Unjust Charges: An Uphill Legal Battle
To make matters worse, despite all that Eric had endured, he was charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer. This charge, which could lead to a sentence of up to 99 years, is not just baseless—it’s cruel. Eric’s injuries prove that he was incapacitated and unable to defend himself during the entire ordeal.
The Need for Justice: Time Is Running Out
On Monday, October 14, 2024, court proceedings began, and thankfully, Eric was granted a continuance. He now has the opportunity to remain out on bond until his next hearing in January 2025. While this gives Eric more time, the fight is far from over.
How You Can Help
To truly give Eric a fighting chance, he needs specialized support that goes beyond the resources a court-appointed attorney can access. Eric’s defense team aims to secure a private investigator and a select group of experts who will stand in his corner, ensuring no detail is overlooked and every angle of justice is pursued.
Here’s what your support will help cover:
Medical Expert Testimony ($5,000): A trauma specialist or ER doctor who can testify to the severity and cause of Eric’s injuries, linking them directly to the alleged assault. This kind of testimony can be powerful in painting the full picture of what happened that night.
Forensic Investigator and Evidence Review ($7,000): This funding will help us bring in a forensic expert to carefully analyze evidence, from taser marks and body cam footage to the medical records that document Eric’s injuries. We want to ensure all data points align with the truth.
Police Procedures Expert ($5,000): An expert in law enforcement procedures could shed light on how police actions measured up to standard protocols, emphasizing where and how things went tragically wrong.
Surveillance and Witness Investigation ($4,000): With your support, we can fund an investigator to canvas the area, identifying and gathering potential witnesses or footage from local businesses or residents.
Psychological Evaluation ($3,000): This would cover an evaluation from a mental health professional to document the psychological trauma Eric has endured, underscoring the long-term impact of the incident.
Additional Legal and Administrative Costs ($6,000): To complete this fight for justice, we also need funds for additional legal hours, documentation, and critical administrative support that keeps the case moving forward.
Your support can help us meet our $30,000 goal to provide Eric with a well-rounded, rigorous defense. Every dollar brings him closer to securing the justice he deserves and ensures that this story has a voice both in the courtroom and beyond. Thank you for standing with Eric in his fight for truth and dignity.
