Bruno Pym's Class 8 Independent Graffiti Project

Donation protected
Hello,

My name is Bruno and I am working on my Class 8 Project (Waldorf school). Below is a brief description on what the Waldorf Class 8 Project is.

Class 8 students are asked to think about what matters to them as individuals. The Class 8 Project requires students to find within themselves the initiative, resourcefulness and will to help them choose and explore a subject of interest to focus on, to sustain their efforts over three terms and to go through a process with an endpoint during which discovery takes place.

For my project I have chosen graffiti because I have always been interested in the arts and graffiti is a form of expression. I began by looking into things that I’m interested in, including skateboarding, photography and art, and that’s when graffiti came to my mind. It has always played a big role in the skateboarding community and urban street photography culture.

As soon as it hit my mind I couldn’t stop thinking about it! I couldn’t wait to create a name, paint pieces, meet and learn from people in the graffiti world and explore parts of cities I love and hopefully some I have never explored before.

This isn’t the first time I’ve done graffiti. I’ve always written my name in my schoolbooks using bubble letters or wacky lettering but it is the first time I have tried complicating it and using spray paint, creating and using a tag name instead of using my real name, which is harder than you might think.

Graffiti has a lot of expression in it. Through the use of colours or characters you have the ability to make them look sad or happy, to express different emotions. I like to express myself so this seemed a perfect way to be able to do this.

I've had some financial support through extended family to get me to this point in my project but it has come to the point in my project when I need to find more funding for this project to take it to the next level.

With this project, I have been working with a mentor, thinking about the project and sketching every day, studying graffiti history and culture, looking at street photography and taking photographs to use to make zines.

I need money to help fund printing costs of t-shirts, stickers and zines. I will also be needing spray paint and other essential supplies like pens, masks, gloves, etc..

You can follow my progress on my Instagram project page (for project use only).
