*BRUNO - 8 Years Old, 12 lbs of Pure Love*
Bruno is a laid-back little guy who just wants to chill out with you. 12 pounds, super friendly, gets along with everyone — the kind of dog who makes himself right at home.
Bruno shouldn't even be here to tell his story. He was on the euthanasia list in Kentucky when we had our rescue partner pull him just in time. The shelter guessed him to be about 6 years old.
He was placed in a wonderful foster home with Pam and her grandson. They absolutely adore him.
Shortly after, Bruno started having medical issues. His foster brought him to the vet in Lowell, IN, where x-rays showed he had a large, infected cyst on his scrotum. He couldn't pee, had severe diarrhea, and needed a specialized surgery called marsupialization that they don't perform.
They also guessed his age to be closer to 8, not 6.
In June 2026, we had Bruno neutered — which ended up saving him. His prostate was already involved. We then took him to VCA in Olympia Fields for a specialist ultrasound.
Their diagnosis: LARGE prostatic cyst present, bladder moderately distended with a normal bladder wall.
The plan was to drain the cyst and bladder, put him on antibiotics, low-fat food, prostate medication to try and shrink the prostate, and a stool softener.
It worked — for about a week. Then he had to go back to be sedated and have the cyst drained again.
He went back to his foster home and was doing better — until he started throwing up.
Bruno has an appointment at VCA tomorrow, October 8th, for another ultrasound and draining. The vet has told us what we feared: he really needs to have the cyst surgically removed. It's a risky surgery, but it's his only chance. She will try on Tuesday, October 13th.
Bruno is such a sweet, wonderful boy. After years of being overlooked, he finally had a chance to be a happy dog and find his furever home.
Now his medical bills keep rising and we are a very small rescue with limited funds.
If you can donate or share — Bruno and all of us would be so grateful. He has fought so hard to be here.
