- Hello, my name is Mason Brunner. My wife Abby and I have 4 children between the ages of 1 and 7. Abby is a stay at home mother, and I am a career firefighter. We decided to start this fundraiser as our last hope after our van, the main vehicle for our family of 6 was taken from a hotel we stayed at on December 1st, after my most recent surgery. We called the police right away and made a stolen vehicle report. We now no longer have that vehicle and still owe the remainder of the car loan, as insurance is not covering the loan. We do not have the financial means to pay for that and also save money for a new vehicle. Our finances have been extremely tight the last few months due to an injury I sustained at work. On July 7th, 2023 while working in a residential structure fire part of the floor collapsed causing my left leg to fall through. I sustained 3rd degree burns to my leg. I ended up having to get skin grafts done which put me out of work for a month until I was able to return on light duty, working significantly less than I was able to before. Working on a reduced schedule we have been losing a significant amount of income. Since returning on light duty I have had two follow up laser surgeries to the burned area. The most recent of which was the day our van was taken in North Charleston leaving our family of 6 stranded. This whole situation has been unbelievably emotional, and we have been trying our best to still make things work. It has taken us everything we have to try to keep paying our bills, the holidays, figuring out what to do with our vehicle situation, getting the kids to and from school/appointments, as well as I am starting paramedic school in a few weeks, all while trying to keep things somewhat normal for our kids. It’s to the point where it feels like we are drowning. With me being gone for work and paramedic school we need to ensure we have a safe vehicle for our children. We appreciate you taking the time to read this. It was not easy for me to admit we need the help, but sometimes we have to swallow our pride for the sake of our kids. We understand things are tight especially around the holidays and we do not want to take away from others who are in need, but if you are able to help we are so appreciative. Thank you, and God bless.
