Indian Bruins Fundraiser for COVID-19 Relief in India
India is currently battling a catastrophic second wave of Covid-19. The cases have exponentially increased, hitting a record of 412K+ cases yesterday. Healthcare system is at the verge of collapse and nearly 3800+ people are dying everyday due to lack of beds/ventilators/oxygen. Hospitals, burial grounds, and crematoriums are currently overwhelmed, and the media is flooded with reportage of the humanitarian crisis unfolding and escalating right before our eyes. It is not an exaggeration to say that at least 1 family member of every Indian Bruin is severely affected by Covid-19. SABA is looking for ways to support and wants to organize a fundraiser to support ongoing efforts for relief. Our goal is to raise $20,000 and we need your help!
How can you make an impact and save lives?
Indian graduate students and South Asian Business Association at UCLA Anderson have identified three organizations: Hemkunt Foundation, Vasavi Seva Foundation, and SEWA International, USA. These organizations are working around the clock on the ground in Gurugram, Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, and Pune, a few of the hardest-hit regions of the sub-continent.
1. Hemkunt Foundation is distributing free oxygen cylinders to COVID-19 patients and organizing relief camps in low-income communities. The foundation is completely volunteer run, and their team is able to help 500 patients a day.
2. Vasavi Seva Foundation is a San Francisco based non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that is serving the needy and underprivileged in the local communities and across the world, VSF is procuring and delivering Oxygen Concentrators in India to help the next during this 2nd wave of covid pandemic.
3. SEWA International, USA is planning to distribute 10,000 units of essentials kit across the nation, with a network of organizations and serve 1,000 orphanages and old age home across major cities.
We aim to raise $20,000 by May 20th to support these urgent efforts. These funds will be divided equally between the above organizations.
