Bruin Formula Racing - FSAE 2024

Hello! We are Bruin Formula Racing, UCLA’s Formula SAE racing team, and every year we compete against teams from around the world in the competition put on by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). From spring to our competition in June, we design, manufacture, test, and race our formula-style car, all as a hands-on way to prepare our members for a future in engineering.

Last year, after a successful crowdfunding campaign, we raced our Mk. 8 car at the May Formula SAE competition. We placed 10th place overall out of 120 internal combustion engine teams, with other successes including 5th place in endurance, 9th in the cost event, 15th in efficiency, and 17th in autocross. None of this would have been possible without the support of donors like you.

Come June of 2024, our new car, Mk. 9, will race in our first Electric Vehicle Formula SAE competition at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, MI! We are beyond thrilled to bring all the energy from our last vehicle’s success into Mk. 9. Due to this new venture, we need your support to help finish Mk. 9 and help get our amazing members out to competition!

As a student organization, fundraising is always a challenge. BFR aims to make our high-quality engineering education as accessible as possible, and therefore we do not charge any membership fees. However, a project of this scale requires immense financial resources. We are extremely grateful to the many university funds, generous sponsors, and private donors supporting this year’s vehicle. Your donations will go toward purchasing components and services to complete our vehicle, and help get our members to competition!

Our Story:

Bruin Formula Racing (BFR) was founded in 2012 and is one of UCLA's premier engineering organizations. We provide UCLA students with the opportunity to develop hands-on skills that complement the conceptual lessons taught in the classroom. Students will learn how to think critically about design choices, present their ideas, and propose creative solutions to the unique challenges that accompany engineering projects. The competition will provide students with an unparalleled opportunity to work in a high-stress, high-stakes environment, where we test our vehicle and validate results from the numerous races we compete in. BFR alumni go on to work at some of the world’s best engineering companies, applying what they learned at BFR and helping make the future a reality.
