Charlotte (Char), Winn and Ellis Bruchman lost their home early Christmas Day. Thank God they were all away for the holidays and no one was home. Their home is a total loss and they will be displaced for awhile. Anything you can give will be helpful and greatly appreciated.
Here is the news story from News4Jax.
A local family, is without a home following an early-morning fire on Christmas.
“Just pure smoke at first, nothing but smoke coming,” said Iris Lannon, a neighbor.
Lannon woke up to her neighbor’s home burning and quickly called 911.
“We started yelling for people inside. He knocked the door in, (but) the smoke came out so fast, he couldn’t go in,” said Lannon.
Firefighters arrived minutes later to find huge flames on South Fletcher Avenue in Fernandina Beach.
They said the fire quickly spread to the second floor and into the attic, and it was difficult for firefighters to gain access to that area. For nearly six hours, dozens of firefighters worked to put the fire out.
“It was something to watch, from beginning to end, because they managed it from beginning to end really well,” Lannon said.
Lannon said a teacher and her two sons live at the home, but they were out of town visiting with family when it caught fire.
“They weren’t there, that’s the best part,” said Lannon.
While Lannon’s neighbor's home is a total loss, she’s reminded of what this holiday season is all about.
“Grateful you have your families and you’re safe,” she said.
