On the evening of January 8th, Bruce went to the hospital with chest pain and shortness of breath. They decided to admit him for further observation. At 2am i received a phone call that he had gone in to cardiac arrest, and was put on a ventilator, and was sent to the ICU.
On January 9th Bruce was transferred to the MICU at St Luke’s in Bethlehem. We found out that his aortic valve had failed, putting him in heart failure.
January 10th, they were able to get the ok to medivac Bruce to HUP.
The following week was about assessing his mental status, and coming up with a game plan to fix the heart.
On Saturday January 18th, Bruce under went open heart surgery to rebuild the base of the aorta, and replace about 50% of the aortic valve. Surgery went well.
As of today he is still on a ventilator. Working towards assessing his mental status. And addressing the stress to his lungs and kidneys.
This journey is far from over, and unfortunately very unknown.
I’m never the person to ask for help in any way, but many people have been asking how they can help.
This is the only thing I can think of. This would help with gas, and parking for myself to get to and from the hospital daily. Also help with the medical bills that have already started to arrive.
We thank you from the bottom on our hearts for your continued support to our family. Will continue to keep you posted on Bruce’s progress. Keep him in your prayers, he’s in rough shape and needs all the love.
