Help Learys Weather the Storm

The Next Step Class at Richmond’s First Baptist Church is raising funds to support Bruce and Debbie Leary, our class’s leaders, as Bruce recovers from a stroke that he suffered on Jan. 27. The funds will be used primarily to provide private nursing care for Jeffrey, their disabled adult son who lives with them and needs around-the-clock care.

Jeffrey requires specialized nursing care. While a state agency has provided nursing care for Jeffrey, Bruce and Debbie have been Jeffrey’s night/weekend nurses for a very long time. Bruce will be unable to assist as he recovers. Debbie is very strong, but she cannot be the caregiver for both her husband and her son.

The primary use of funds being requested will provide extra nursing care for Jeffrey for approximately three months. A limited amount will also assist in travel costs for Brandon, Bruce and Debbie’s younger son, to come home from Vermont several times between now and the end of his semester.
