Bruce Sackett's Recovery

My dad broke his femur after slipping in his bathroom a week and half ago and ended up with a comminuted break that required surgery and hardware. After surgery this week he was transferred to a rehab facility, but we learned today that they are likely going to give him the boot in the next week and send him home way before he’s allowed to put any weight on the leg. That's medicare for you! The doctor said that it will be at least 8 weeks before he can start to bear weight on the leg which means my mom would have to be the one to lift and maneuver him 24/7 which clearly is not only ridiculous but dangerous. That's when the social worker suggested that they either hire 24/7 Home Health Care or send him to a Board & Care facility for the next couple months while he heals and is eventually allowed to bear weight on the leg as he begins physical therapy.  The problem is Medicare covers $0 of these services and there are no other options. These board and care facilities don't even accept credit cards!  Unfortunately my parents live month to month off their social security which just about covers their basic bills, and we supplement the difference. We are going to do everything we can to help financially, but with two kids in college and our own expenses, we just don't have the funds to cover a couple months of Board and Care. This puts us in a really difficult position because I realize that there is no way my mom can do what would be necessary, and so we have decided to reach out to their friends with the hope that we can raise some money towards the care that my dad will need as he recuperates from this really awful break. It's very difficult to have to reach out on their behalf and ask for help, but this situation puts us in a real predicament. We realize that not everyone is in the position to help but at this point even a very small contribution will be gratefully appreciated and will allow us get him the care he needs.
