Hi family and friends,
So, as some of you know, the morning of February 11th, Bruce suffered a major stroke. We woke up that morning and Bruce didn't seem his normal self. He struggled to find his words and wasn't making much sense. After a brief discussion, we made the decision to go in to the ER.
Upon arriving via ambulance, they took him back to perform a CT scan of his brain. The results were and are disheartening...he suffered a brain bleed in his left parietal and temporal lobe, otherwise known as a hemorrhagic stoke. After 24 hours of observation and some minor medication, the bleed increased and the neurosurgeon decided to perform surgery to relieve the pressure on his brain. Praise God the surgery went well!
Yesterday they were able to take the breathing tube out and Bruce is awake and stable. The doctors said there was a lot of damage, as this was a very large bleed and recovery will likely be a very long process. We have been overwhelmed by the amount of prayer support we have received so far and are blessed to call you friends and family.
Let me share a little bit about the man that I call my father-in-law. He is an avid hiker, a published author, a reknown speaker, a missionary who has traveled the world, a marriage and family counselor, and pastor, and a chaplain for many professional sports teams. But he is so much more than the sum of his works; he is a prayer warrior, not only for his children, grandchildren, and wife, but for the people of this world who are lost or suffering, for the world leaders who have so much on their shoulders, for missionaries who are struggling and discouraged, and even for strangers on planes (he absolutely loves talking to strangers)! He is a loving father, a devoted husband, a papa to 4 grandchildren, a loyal friend, and an amazing role model. Most of all, he has spent his life spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ to any and all who would hear the good news. He has dedicated his entire life to helping and serving others and now it's time to come together and help him!
Now comes the hard part...Bruce and Bev (and the rest of the family) have a very long road ahead, as far as recovery and rehabilitation. The plan, right now, is to keep Bruce and Bev with us here in San Diego while Bruce is recuperating. As I'm sure you all know, medical insurance is great, but often doesn't always cover the "real" costs of injuries like this. Please consider supporting Bruce and Bev as they embark on this new journey of recovery together with our family. May God bless you the rest of your days and thank you.
If you'd like to keep up with Bruce's progress, we'll be posting updates to the link below.
