On Tuesday, August 10th, 2021, my family lost a King. Bruce Corey Allen Sr. succumbed to cancer in his Southern California home, surrounded by his loving family. He battled his illness quietly, not wanting any of us to be sad for longer than we had to. For this reason, he expressed his wishes for us to not have a memorial service for him. I believe he knew how much of an inspiration for love and fun he was to us, and it matches his style that he didn't want us to drag out our sadness over him. But there is no way we won't be. He was a person that dreamed big, and acted on his dreams while remaining a spiritual pillar for all of us, and we simply cannot believe he is gone.
He touched so many lives with his sweet demeanor and protected so many of us with his strong constitution. People from all over are contacting us, his wife of 43 years, Shalimar Allen in particular, asking what they can do to help. My aunt Shelly told me about how she watched him work on his latest project, a family studio, right up until his last days. He worked tirelessly, building and wiring until he couldn't walk anymore and had to be bedridden due to the advancement of the disease. At her, and the family's request, instead of flowers or food, we ask that you help us finish his dream, the Family Studio. Through modest monetary donations from family and friends, we can complete what he started. Your donation would help with funeral expenses, of which he requested the minimum, as was his self-sacrificing style, and the rest would go to the completion of his dream. For those of you that knew him well, you know this is what he wanted.
My Uncle Bruce is most of the reason I am who I am today. He was one of the most important people in my life. Ever since I can remember I have been in a studio with him, creating music and learning how to be a man. He would come home from working construction all day, and open up the studio to me in the evening just to let me mess around with stuff. I gained my confidence and musical skills because of his sacrifice. During my later teenage years, I know that the existence and access to the family studio was how my cousins and I were able to stay out of most trouble. It wasn't until I was older that I realized that his contribution to our musical family in the form of a studio was how we stayed close, how we stayed positive and creative, and how we grew into men. In later years, our family moved away from each other physically, which caused us to lose some of that closeness. I believe my Uncle, who always had a studio for us for as long as I can remember, was building a new home base for us to get back together. I am quite sure that we will all do what we can to fulfill his final dream, and that is why I am so behind my Aunt's idea of raising funds to finish it.
Thank you in advance, and thank you all for your patience with us during this incredibly hard time.
