Help Bru beat Breast Cancer

In late December 2022, 3 days before Christmas Brunella & I received a devastating confirmation that a lump Bru had felt in her breast early December was cancerous.

What was to follow has been an endless roller coaster of stress, sadness and frustration.

Going through the process to get a conclusive diagnosis on the stage of cancer was long and filled with extreme anxiety, pushed back from what felt like a never ending list of complications & examinations. Every test seemed to reveal another issue.

Wanting to have kids & due to Bru’s age we were hastily advised to freeze eggs prior to beginning treatment as this may not be possible later. Due to more complications discovered during this process (that will need to be addressed after we pass this first hurdle) unfortunately we were unable to do so. At this time Bru also needed to undergo a small kidney related surgery prior to beginning treatment.

Roughly 2 months after finding the lump Bru was diagnosed with Stage 2 triple negative invasive cancer. The treatment process will involve 2 rounds of chemotherapy (fortnightly for 2 months & then weekly for 3 months) a small surgery & radiation therapy.

Currently unable to work, and having only recently moved to Australia means Bru is ineligible for Medicare. This has also meant we have had to miss out on a certain drug treatment that is free on medicare but $6,500 per dose otherwise. We have truly felt the financial sting, and although Bru has been paying for full health care cover, it seems we must fight them at every step. So far we have had to front up every invoice.

Watching your loved one be told they have cancer, followed by problem after problem, swiftly followed by bills in the thousands is truly heartbreaking. Just as a partner, this is one of the hardest experiences of my life. I’m so proud of her strength and defiance in this moment. We will fight, and we will beat this, together.

It has taken us 3 months to create this gofundme, mostly because the idea of charity feels uncomfortable. But we know we have friends & family who want to help, as would we in the same situation.
