Reviving Brownsberg Nature Park – Renovation Begins!

Brownsberg: A place where the love for nature began for many in Suriname.

A place full of untapped potential, rich in biodiversity and breathtaking views. A natural gem that should remain accessible to everyone.

Unfortunately, Brownsberg Nature Park has significantly deteriorated in recent years. The causes are varied, but one thing is certain: maintaining infrastructure in the jungle is a huge challenge. Visitor numbers are declining, and many only stay briefly — while this is a place that invites you to enjoy days of hiking trails, waterfalls, and unique wildlife.

Due to the low number of visitors, illegal gold miners are gaining more ground. They are now encroaching on the higher parts of the mountain. One effective way to combat this? Make Brownsberg attractive again for nature lovers and tourists! That means improving the road, renovating accommodations, and breathing new life into the park. But we can only do this together.

Yes, there is a lot of work to be done — but we have to start somewhere. We (Unlock Nature), together with the Suriname Conservation Foundation (STINASU), are taking the first step. And for that, we need your help!

We're starting with the renovation of the two most iconic buildings with the best views: Huize Tapir and Kapasi. To make these buildings bat-free and repair the mattresses, beds, support beams, faucets, doors, windows, toilets, kitchens, tiles, screens, etc., we need about €11,000.

As many of you know, there’s plenty more that needs to be done on Brownsberg. Every extra euro we raise will be invested in further renovation of the park — step by step.
