Our dear friend, family member, and universally loved coach Jay Brown was recently diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer called leiomyosarcoma. What began as a concerning mass in his leg has quickly turned into a life-changing battle for Jay and his family.
Under the Friday night lights, in packed gyms, on quiet practice fields—Jason has given his time, his energy, and his heart to the kids and families of Abington. Since 2010, he has been a dedicated coach at Abington High School, leading Varsity Football, JV Basketball, and JV Baseball. He’s spent countless hours mentoring young athletes, pushing them to be better—not just in sports, but in life.
Off the field, his commitment never stopped. Jason serves on the Abington Little League Baseball Board and the Abington Boys Travel Basketball Board, and he continues to coach multiple youth teams. He has always been there for everyone else.
Now, Jason is facing the fight of his life.
The diagnosis is Stage 3 leiomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer in his left leg. In the coming weeks, Jason will begin an intense treatment plan—radiation therapy five days a week for five weeks at Dana Farber in Boston. In mid-July, he will undergo major surgery to remove the sarcoma. What follows will be a long and difficult road: time in the hospital, months of recovery at home, and up to a year of rehabilitation just to regain strength and mobility in his leg.
This fight will take him away from the work he loves and the teams he’s devoted himself to for so many years.
But more than anything, Jason is a father and partner to Erin. Finn (11), Maverick (9), and Grace (7) look up to him as their hero—the one who shows up, who cheers them on, who never gives up. Now they are watching their dad step into a battle no family is ever prepared for.
The financial strain during this time will be overwhelming. Between travel to and from Boston, lost income, and everyday family expenses, the burden adds up quickly.
This is where we can all step in. Jason has spent his life lifting others up. Now it’s our turn to lift him.
If Jason has ever impacted your life, your child’s life, or this community in any way, please consider giving what you can. No amount is too small. And if you’re unable to donate, sharing this page can make all the difference.
Let’s rally around Jason and his family. Let’s show them they are not facing this alone.
Because the man who has stood on the sidelines for all of us…
deserves a team standing behind him now.
