Hey y’all. 2 nights ago (11/17) a close friend of mine experienced a hate crime and was assaulted in front of her home. While going outside to warm up her motorcycle a man began to throw food at her. She proceeded to protect herself by pushing the guy away when he began to approach her. She warned him to stay away. The altercation escalated and another man from the same apartment complex she lives in walked out and approached her aggressively. With the feeling that something bad was going to happen she immediately put her helmet on to take off on her bike. These men began taking pictures of her motorcycle while she was on it and she was telling them to back off. The visor of her helmet was open and one of the guys slashed her face through the visor with a huge knife. It is a huge and deep cut right under her eye that extends onto her nose. There was no reason as to why they did this. They truly were picking a fight with her. She is a brown queer dyke that was targeted. These men also live in the same apartment building. The safety of my friend is now at risk since these men know that she lives in the same building. This was a traumatic experience and now she does not have safety in her own home. I am seeking out community support in hopes to crowdfund some money so she can move out and relocate. Funds will go towards the break of her lease and deposit. What happened to her was an unprovoked and targeted hate crime. In addition to the physical scar, it will also leave a traumatic one. This is also a reminder that the mere act of being your authentic queer self can bring you violence and harm. We also ask that out of respect and privacy to the community member, that you do not ask her any questions regarding the assault. Please do not overwhelm her DM’s. Thank you for reading this far. Please share, repost, and boost this! Any and all donations are truly appreciated.
