Brother Needs Urgent Medical Care

Update:

Brother's health rapidly declined and we had to make the hard decision to follow through with end of life services. He is no longer suffering and we are truly devastated at the loss of our dear boy. We had the unexpected cost of his cremation and we are hoping to raise the funds to cover these expenses.

It goes without saying we are eternally grateful for all the help we have received so far, and if you are unable to contribute that is okay, but we want to express our gratitude moving forward as we grieve the loss of our beloved kitty. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Original post:

This is Brother.

What started as a house cat’s quest for adventure (an innocent slip out the door that went unnoticed till feeding time) led to him being lost in Arizona for a total of 137 days.

Brother was found suffering from malnutrition, heat exhaustion, possible valley fever, and heavily anemic. He lost half of his body weight and was found with a skeletal frame, weighing only 6 pounds.

Upon further examination, we discovered he had also been shot with a pellet gun, with a metal pellet embedded into his tail. He experienced the kind of trauma and pain that would change a cat, but somehow, he is still his sweet and affectionate self.

We immediately brought him to the vet and began supplementing to help him gain weight. Unable to afford the treatment plan, we were given instructions to allow him to rest, supplement, and rehydrate. However, despite our efforts, his condition had slightly improved, plateaued, and recently plummeted. He is still suffering from anemia, is very weak, and now we fear he may be experiencing a UTI as he is having frequent accidents.

Brother’s treatment plan consists of a multitude of tests to determine what kind of medical intervention is necessary to treat his condition. These costs don’t include the medications necessary to treat him. We don’t even know if this will work or if we will be able to save him, but we are desperate to do everything we can to give him the best chance. Him being home is a miracle in itself, at this point we are just thankful to have him here with us, but after all he has been through, we can’t sit around and watch him suffer anymore.

Thank you for your continued support.
