Shazan St. James, 23 year old, middle brother of five aka #3, moved back to India from Norway to be closer to his girlfriend and pursue a career in Djing, modelling and acting.
He collapsed (cardiac arrest) on a warm day in the gym. The cause is unsure but we suspect its the pre-workout, creatine and heat.
He received CPR right up until they reached the hospital where his heart was jump-started by means of a difibrilator.
When I first walked into the room his eyes were open but rolled up (white eyed), it came as a shock to the nurses. That was the first time he did that. He did it again when my dad talked to him and his heart rate rose. And the next few times I've spoke to him his heart rate has risen. After those few days his eyes are back down the irises visible, we can see them blue but a little glazed. The next day they were back to normal we could even see the yellow specks in his iris, his pupils were small and for the first time it actually felt like he was sleeping. He even appeared to be having REM sleep.
Day by day he looks stronger, and stronger. And that gives us hope.
Shazan has been in intensive care from day 1. We are already at day 7 and he is looking so much better. We have moved him to a second hospital because we weren't happy with how they handled some situations at the first one. This one feels super professional, the patient is priority. We have meetings every morning with the doctor in charge of Shazan for a status update. And there seems to be no ego involved, they are open to questions and inputs, also the doctor in charge himself brought up the subject of second opinions and said whenever we want an outside opinion they are more than willing to co-operate.
The neurologist was quite happy with Shazan's response from the first meeting. His eyes reacted to light, he pulled his arm away when pinched.
His vitals are back to normal, he is breathing on his own, the ventilator is there as a back up.
Kidney, liver, heart, and lungs are all functioning. The MRI has come back fuzzy. The intensivist has said it is unsure in what condition he would wake up (he is not in a coma, nor put into an induced coma). He could wake up perfectly fine, or he may not have memory, or his spatial awareness could be affected, there is a possibility he may not walk, or he may not be functional on his own and may need lifelong care.
They can't say as everybody sort of reacts differently.
From what we have seen up until now. We are quite relieved and very happy with his progress. It's just a matter of time, patience and money. The new hospital is great but comes at a cost, its nearly double the first one we have learnt that from these last 2 days that it's about €700 a day, which we are paying by pooling resources between us and a few friends who are pitching in.
So if you can help, any amount will make a difference, big or small. Thoughts, and prayers. Anything really.
It is also possible to donate anonymously (even small amounts will help, and for your privacy, if you prefer it as that's how I do it too) from a PC browser or on a mobile phone you need to open the web version if I understood clearly. This is my first time doing this so bear with me.
There is a 30 cent transaction charge and they take 7.9% so we don't get the entire amount. But this seems to be the best option we have.
