They remained friends when Brooks joined the United States Marine Corps. & spent numerous hours on the phone while he was stationed in Yuma, Arizona. About a year ago, Brooks invited Paula to a friends wedding in Ft. Wayne, Indiana & this was the beginning of their relationship. Then in October while vacationing in Destin, Florida, Brooks popped the question!

She said YES & on April 30, 2016 Brooks & Paula were married!

Brooks had been having a severely hoarse voice for a few months. After numerous doctors appointments, Brooks was sent to LSU-S where a tumor was found behind the right vocal chord. He underwent surgery on May 9th to biopsy the tumor.

In early June, after one month of marriage & at the young age of 34, Brooks was diagnosed with an extremely rare cancer & sent to MD Anderson. His particular type of cancer is so rare that MD Anderson says of all the cancers they see only 3% is this type - Squamous cell carcinoma with sarcomatoid spindle cell properties. Brooks will be undergoing surgery August 8th at MD Anderson to remove the tumor. Recovery will take months and will be extremely hard. Brooks needs our prayers!
