Brooklyn SDA Church Elevator Project

The Brooklyn Seventh-day Adventist Church has been an active and contributing establishment of the Brooklyn community for over 136 years. We trace our roots to a small congregation called the Brooklyn City Mission, which began its ministry in Brooklyn in 1851 but was officially established in January 1886. Forty-four years ago, in 1978, we moved to the Midwood community, and it has been our home and Ministry Center ever since.

 

Over the years, the infrastructure of our church has aged, which has become quite costly to maintain. Despite ongoing efforts to repair and maintain our original elevator, it does not work consistently, rendering it unreliable to the point where safety is often a concern. Too often, the elevator cannot transport our aging membership and those physically challenged to the upper levels for worship and use our bathroom facilities on the third floor.

 

We are in dire need of a replacement elevator. Our grassroots efforts to raise the necessary funds, starting just before the onset of the COVID-19 Pandemic and the subsequent widespread lockdown, have proven inadequate to meet our goal. As we have returned to in-person worship and fellowship, the use of a fully functional elevator has become a critical need.

 

The current estimate to install a new elevator with motor and controls is $130,000, an amount we do not have at our disposal and would take quite some time to acquire, given the urgency of the need. So, in light of this, we invite you to partner with us in this critical initiative, trusting that God will help us meet our goal through you.

 

 

We desire to begin the installation of the new elevator by mid-November 2022.
