We are writing this with the heaviest hearts as we try to honour our best friend, Brooklyn.
On August 22, 2025, Brooklyn was diagnosed with an aggressive form of lymphoma. Everything happened so fast and so unexpectedly, but if you knew Brooklyn, you know that not even this could break her spirit. Though she was in the hospital for the past six weeks, she remained optimistic and determined, with her mom never leaving her side. Brooklyn stayed busy dreaming about the future, making plans with us for trips we would take, creating bucket lists she could not wait to start, and crafting special gifts for Harlow and Tegan, her niece and nephew and the absolute lights of her life.
Brooklyn was only 24 years old, but she lived with more love, joy, and purpose than most people do in a lifetime. She was the kind of person who made everyone feel safe, seen, and loved. Her humour was unmatched, her laughter contagious, and her heart was bigger than anyone we have ever known. She had an incredible way of showing up for the people she loved, and she always put everyone else before herself.
This year was supposed to be the start of so many exciting things for Brooklyn. She had just graduated from university in June and was so proud of everything she had accomplished. She had big dreams of stepping into a career in finance and was excited for all that lay ahead.
On October 1, 2025, just weeks after her diagnosis, Brooklyn passed away suddenly. Nothing could have prepared us for how quickly everything changed. The heartbreak of losing her is something we are still trying to process, and the hole she has left in our lives is impossible to put into words. Brooklyn was a daughter, a sister, an auntie, and a best friend. She had dreams she was still chasing, memories she was still supposed to make, and a life she deserved to keep living.
We are creating this GoFundMe to honour Brooklyn’s memory and to help support her family during this unimaginable time. All donations will go directly to the Schurek’s and be used toward funeral expenses, memorial arrangements, and giving her the beautiful goodbye she deserves.
If you are able, please consider donating or sharing this page. Your support will help us celebrate Brooklyn’s life and ensure she is remembered for the light, love, and laughter she brought into the world.
