Brooklyn Avery is the daughter of Don and Jamie Avery. Don is the Parts Manager for Tom Naquin Chevrolet and Jamie works for Monger School. Brooklyn is 13 years old and is in 8th grade. She attends John Young Middle School. Sunday, January 30th, everything changed for Brooklyn as she appeared symptomatic of COVID. Her parents rushed her to the ER to find Brooklyn was in Diabetic Keto Acidosis. Brooklyn's blood sugar levels reached 750. She stopped breathing, had swelling on the brain and had to be intubated and sedated. Once stabilized, Brooklyn was transported to Memorial Children's Pediatric ICU. The MRi confirmed Brooklyn had a series of mini strokes which weakened her left side. She has also been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Her breathing tube has recently been removed and the swelling on her brain is gone. Brooklyn still is fed via feeding tube as her throat muscles are weak. She also remains in the Pediatric ICU unit. The once vibrant , energetic athlete who lit up a room with her contagious smile, laughter and humor is fighting daily for her strength and recovery. Brooklyn's parents have not left her side which has kept her positive attitude alive. As Brooklyn continues to make progress , she will eventually be transported to a rehabilitation center in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Always remind your loved ones they are loved. Never go to bed angry. Tomorrow is never promised.
Please share Brooklyn's story and help support the family. Many unforeseen medical expenses lie ahead. Every little bit helps.
Blessings to you our sweet Brooklyn.......love and prayers surround you xoxo
