I never imagined I’d be in a position where I’d have to ask for help, but here I am, and I truly appreciate you taking the time to read about what’s going on with me.

I have several nodules “benign tumors” that are growing in my thyroid making a large goiter in my neck. Over the past year, they have doubled in size, making it difficult for me to swallow, affecting my voice, and causing discomfort. Recently, the tumors are producing thyroid hormone as well tricking my brain and throwing me into a hyperthyroid state. This is not a state to stay in as it has many health effects so I have to make some decisions quick.

I’ve found a minimally invasive procedure called Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) that will burn and shrink the nodules while preserving my thyroid, meaning I won’t have to take lifelong medication from getting half my thyroid removed. RFA is the best option for me at this time, but unfortunately, my insurance does not cover anything as my deductible is $6,000. The deductible would be the same for the thyroid removal surgery as well. The RFA procedure costs $6,000 out of pocket, and I simply cannot afford it on my own.

This was an unexpected and urgent medical expense, and waiting until next year to change insurances isn’t an option because my symptoms are getting worse. I’m reaching out to my friends and family for any support—every little bit helps, even if it’s just sharing this page.
