Help Brook with Emergency Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Camille, I'm fundraising for my cousin Brook.
Brook is a Junior at the Oregon Institute of Technology majoring in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
In mid-January Brook went to the Emergency room and found out she had multiple large blood clots. As of setting up this fundraiser, they have still not found a cause. Brook has undergone multiple emergency surgeries and her condition required a 3+ hour ambulance ride to a different hospital. She has been in the hospital for over a week so far, she was released once and then readmitted less than 24 hours later and has not been released yet as of 1/22/23.
Funds will be used to pay for her medical bills that are not fully covered by insurance including their $10,000 deductible and $20,000 ambulance ride. Anything over the $30,000 will be used for ongoing medical costs and Brook's school tuition for next semester because she may be required to redo this semester.
Here is a note Brook posted on Facebook with more details.
"A false diagnosis can be fatal. That's why I'm so excited to be working as a general ultrasound technologist and be able to help people to the best of my ability and give them the best care possible. I was falsely diagnosed by Urgent Care with Sciatica and wasn't even physically examined. 24 hours later I was in the emergency room and it was found that I had blood clots up my entire right leg, blood clots up to my iliac veins, some in my inferior vena cava, and two pulmonary emboli. I had an ultrasound, CT, EKG, and many many blood tests. I eventually had a thrombectomy to remove as much of the clots as they could. They were able to remove 90% of the clots and I will be on blood thinners to resolve the rest. Very thankful that Sky Lakes ER and hospital took such good care of me."
Update from her mom when she was readmitted:
"Brook was admitted again at 3AM with more blood clots in her leg and more in her lungs. She had surgery again to basically place a filter that will prevent more clots from making it into her lungs or other undesirable areas. She also had a catheter placed up one leg vein and clear down to the calf area of the other leg to deliver an anticoagulant directly for the next 12 hours. She will be in the ICU for at least the next 12 hours. Please continue to say your prayers for her."
As of right now, Brook is in a different hospital, she is out of the ICU. We do not know when she will be released. We do know that when she is released she will most likely need a wheelchair for a while because the blood clots are very painful.
Thank you for any donations you are able to give, any amount helps. Thank you and have a wonderful day!
