Hi everyone. On January 10, 2025, at around 1:40 AM, I was woken up by loud pounding on our door and the overwhelming smell of smoke filling the apartment. Panic set in as we heard chaos outside in the hall, I heard screaming outside and firefighters climbing ladders trying to reach the roof, footsteps up on the roof. My 7 year old brother began to cry and my grandma was so confused and scared, while my mom was becoming frantic. We found ourselves forced out into the cold night with nothing but the clothes we were wearing and a few papers that were within arm's reach. My mom, my brother, and my grandma stood outside, watching helplessly as our home and all our belongings went up in flames. I could do nothing but feel terrible as these are the three people I care for the most, and I feel they are most vulnerable right now.

My name is Luis, and I am reaching out to ask for your support as my family and I try to rebuild after losing everything in this fire. My mom, little brother, grandma, and I fell victim to this fire that could have 100% been easily avoided. This tragedy was a result of the neglect and failures of the building’s owners, PARKASH 2910 L.L.C., who allowed unsafe conditions to persist for years after numerous complaints. The owners of the building, PARKASH 2910 L.L.C., have a very extensive history of violations and failed maintenance. The fire was a direct result of their disregard for the safety of their tenants. They need to be held accountable for what happened to us and all the other families affected.

The firefighters were fighting to put out the fire and keep it under control for over 10 hours, yet it would continue to re-ignite in different places making it extremely difficult. The fire started in the building’s electrical system and despite their efforts, it wasn’t contained quickly enough to save our apartment or the many others that were impacted. The emotional and physical toll this took on my family is hard to describe, but we know we are not alone as many other families in the building also lost everything.

This loss is especially devastating for my mom, who has worked tirelessly to provide for me and my brother after the passing of my dad in 2019. Despite everything, she has always given selflessly and worked multiple jobs to ensure we were okay. It’s heartbreaking to see her go through something like this. She would never ask for help, so I’ve decided to create this GoFundMe to raise funds to get us back on our feet.

Any support would mean the world to us. And even if you’re unable to donate, please consider contacting PARKASH Management and demanding that they take responsibility for what has happened—not just for my family, but for everyone who lives in poorly managed buildings across New York City. VED PARKASH is to blame, once topping the list of NYC’s Worst Landlords. And we shouldn’t have to live in fear of losing everything because of negligence.

Mi hermanito de solo 7 años comenzó a llorar y mi abuelita estaba muy confundida y asustada, mientras que mi mami también tenía mucho miedo. Estuvimos en la noche fría con nada más que la ropa que teníamos puesta y algunos papeles que estaban al alcance en el apartamento. Mi mami, mi hermano y mi abuelita se quedaron afuera, mirando impotentes cómo nuestra casa y todas nuestras memorias se incendiaban. No pude hacer nada más que sentirme terrible porque estas son las tres personas que más quiero y siento que son las más vulnerables en este momento.
