Bromyard RFC pitch drainage

Donation protected
Dear Friends,

Following the recent announcement by the Rugby Football Union that the remainder of the playing season was to be cancelled, it only achieved to exacerbate an already desperate situation that we found ourselves in.

Since the start of the Year 2020 only one senior game of rugby has been played on either of the two pitches at Bromyard, mostly as a result of general widespread cancellation of matches due to the volley of storms that rained down upon us and more latterly due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

Worryingly our pitches had been rendered unplayable when others had managed to host matches.

Pre storms and pre Corvid 19 the clubs committee had approved the task to fundraise towards the considerable cost of upgrading the drainage of both pitches so as to ensure that rugby matches and also training could be achieved pretty much on every occasion as required by either of the two senior teams, colts, ladies or juniors.

It is considerably expensive to run the Rugby club even when we have the luxury of regular money coming in on match days and from hosting social community events and without such influx of cash due to the enforced closure it has been impossible to direct any money towards the fund raising, rather the little amount of money available was re directed to paying the regular outgoings of the club even when closed to any form of business activity.

Bromyard RFC are proud to have its heart and roots in grass level rugby with the emphasis on participation and enjoyment by the local community. This season we are particularly proud to have achieved promotion to Midlands West South 3, where we will meet a raft of new opposition teams.

Therefore it is very much hoped that we can present our club in the very best light and never to have to cancel a game of rugby again other than in the most extreme of circumstances and in order for this to happen we must accelerate our drive towards the necessary work to the pitches.

This coming season Bromyard Rugby Club are celebrating 40 years of continuous being. It is only with the efforts of a small but dedicated band of volunteers that we can continue to exist as we do. Our solitary voluntary groundsman with the assistance of a few helpers spent the entire Friday forking the earth beneath the puddles of standing water in the hope that the next days game could go ahead. Sadly such was the saturation of the ground that the match was called off.

This appeal is directly aimed for donations by playing members, associate members, parents and friends of the club in our efforts to gather the necessary funding towards the work required to the pitches to allow BRFC to continue to provide the first class facilities to the rugby fraternity that we are all proud to represent.

Many thanks in anticipation for your donation.

Good health and stay safe
