Keeping The Promise to Help "Cali"

Donation protected
Where there is LIFE there is HOPE.

Nurtured and cared for by a loving family a dog named Cali is surrounded by children and another family dog.
Both these animals were adopted by this family from their local animal shelter. These dogs were as much a part of the family as the children.

However, living in a quiet New York suburb was no protection from the evils of the pet theft industry.

One day Cali was stolen from her family and put through 2 years of neglect and torture, not knowing that her family was distraught and frantically searching for her.

As fate would have it, one night an emaciated skeleton of a dog bleeding from her nose staggers into a rest stop gas station in the southern part of New Jersey.

A young Naval Recruit driving home from her base in Virginia, stops to get gas and spots this emaciated dog.

This young woman, not knowing what to do, contacted Broken Promises Sanctuary and was told to bring the dog to us.

The grateful gas station attendant filled her tank with gas at his own expense as well as donating money for the care of this pathetic looking animal.

Broken Promises Sanctuary immediately took possession of Cali and provided her with emergency veterinary care, blood tests, x-rays, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, intravenous fluids, subcutaneous fluids and lots of home cooked food.

Upon examination, it was discovered that Cali had a micro-chip.

We tracked her family who is now living in North Carolina.

Her family was shocked and in disbelief that their Cali had been found.

They stated that her name was Cali and that she was stolen 2 years earlier from their home in New York.

We informed her family that she was too weak to travel.  We promised Cali that we would get her better and return her to her family and show her that she had not been forsaken.

Cali started gaining strength but her nose continued to ooze with blood.

We took Cali for a CAT scan and discovered a tumor growing in her nasal cavity and sinus.  No veterinarian would operate on such a case.

Searching for a miracle, we found a specialty veterinary hospital in Pennsylvania, that felt that they could bring Cali relief with their specialized radiation procedure.

Broken Promises Sanctuary seized upon this ray of hope for Cali.

We made arrangements to bring Cali out to Pennsylvania to begin her treatments.

We are building Cali’s strength and we will keep our promise to bring her home.

Keeping the Promise!
