Dad Broke Both Kneecaps Out Of Town

Donation protected
My name is Thomas and my Dad and I were in Dallas on May 7, 2017. He had always wanted to go see the Southfork Ranch (from the Dallas TV Show) and I took him out for the weekend. We were looking for dinner around the hotel and walked outside as there were a couple restaurants next door. As were we outside there was a guy on drugs walking in the middle of the driveway. A passerby tried helping the guy get out of the road who then started trying to fight the passerby. Dad wanted me to go help/warn the families close to this guy to make sure he didn't harm the Mothers or their children. At that point he started coming towards my Dad and I. We then stepped up on the sidewalk making sure he couldn't get close to us. He finally made his way to the hotel entrance and an ambulance was getting ready to pull into the driveway to help him. We started to walk back into the hotel to get out of the way of everything and that's when my 67 year old father didn't see the curb drop off and went straight down on both knees (on the concrete drive).

We called 911 and EMS took him to the Emergency Room for X-Rays. We found out that he had broken both kneecaps in the fall. We were both devastated and 1,000 miles away from home. Dad was told he needed to see a Bone Doctor/Orthopedic Specialist to determine if he needed surgery. He was given braces for both legs to immobilize and keep his legs as straight as possible. We had a horrible time getting him in a car to ride back to the hotel and I knew that driving home 14+ hours was not an option.

I started looking at commercial airplane tickets but couldn't get him on a non-stop home and knew he wouldn't be able to get into the airplane seat. My Dad is 6'5" and wouldn't be able to fit into the seats with his leg braces. I then started sending e-mails to airplane charter companies because we needed to get him home as quickly as possibly to ensure proper treatment. I was able to get him a charter flight home Tuesday May 9, 2017 and then an appointment with the Bone Doctor on Wednesday May 10, 2017. The charter flight home was the only option to get my Dad home and I needed to do anything possible to make it happen.

Needless to say between the necessary flight, medical bills & expenses this has put an extreme burden on my Father.

There is power in numbers and it is necessary to set this up to help my Dad out.

He is unable to get out of bed, a chair, or the couch on his own.  Therefore I hope and plan on being able to stay with him for many weeks to come.

Follow up X-Rays are scheduled for this coming Friday and we will know more about his condition / possible surgery at that time.

Thank you very much for your time and any assistance you could provide.
