Broken Legged Server
December 3, 2019 I had a slip and fall dislocating and breaking my ankle in three places. I had to wait until December 19th for surgical treatment. They put in 9 pins and a plate, after which the doctor let me know I had at least 3-4 months of recovery before I could go back to high impact activity, I.e. serving, baking, or standing jobs. Obviously, I immediately started looking for office jobs. Although I had several interviews the mobility issues were a deterrent due to the increased liability risks, and the months of PT I still had coming.
Family and friends have chipped in and helped us so far. I can’t begin express how appreciative we are. Due to the circumstances behind the injury we had to file a lawsuit with the responsible parties and were unable to access other forms of assistance. Family has been so great but the amount of strain put on those closest to us is really difficult as well.
I am now able to walk again, limited amounts and with a significant limp. Going back to serving isn’t possible yet. And I still have applications out to every conceivable job that I’m even remotely close to qualified for. I was able to get a super part time position that’s helping, but I had two jobs before...
I’m hopeful that things will work out soon. Meanwhile, we’re doing what we can to make cuts to expenses and sell non-essentials. But we’re running out of furniture and vehicles to sell.
For those who have already contributed you have been the shelter in a storm. It’s overwhelming and wonderful to experience such generosity in such a bleak time. If you’ve ever counted change to buy groceries you understand how even the smallest donation makes a huge difference for us right now. Thank you so much.
