Bane is only one or two years old.
An orange tabby who should have been spending his days chasing toys, stretching in sunny windows, and falling asleep safely in someone’s arms.
Instead, he was surviving alone with a burst eye and a broken jaw.
We do not know what happened to him. Maybe he was hit by a car. Maybe attacked by another animal. Maybe someone hurt him intentionally. We will never know how this gentle cat suffered such devastating injuries — or how long he lived in agony before help finally came.
What we do know is heartbreaking.
Bane tried to survive every single day in excruciating pain.
Unable to see from one eye.
Unable to eat without pain shooting through his broken jaw.
Still trying to live. Still trying to trust.
When he arrived at Burlington Humane, the damage was worse than we feared. His right eye had ruptured. Parts of the eye were still trapped inside the socket. We immediately provided medical care and the veterinary team had to remove what remained, clean the wound, and permanently sew the eye shut so he would never suffer from that pain again.
And through it all… Bane remained sweet.
No anger.
No aggression.
Just a frightened, exhausted cat quietly accepting kindness for perhaps the first time in a very long time.
Now we face the next challenge: his broken jaw. Specialists must determine whether surgery is even possible, or whether the risks are too great because the injury healed improperly over time. We are not trying to make Bane perfect. We are trying to give him something far more important:
A life without pain.
A warm bed.
A full belly.
Safety.
Love.
His medical care has already cost thousands of dollars, and more treatment is still ahead. Please help give Bane the life he deserved all along. Because after everything this little cat has endured, he still looks at people with trust. And he deserves to know that the world can finally be kind to him.
