Brody Rae

Hi Everyone,

I am setting this up on behalf of Brandon and Julie Rae for their son Brody Rae.

After her water was broken she was is tremendous pain. The doctor told them they had 3 options to get Brody out. They could either us the vacuum, forsnips, or do a C-Section. They asked the Doctor for the least intrusive, so the Doctor recommended the vacuum.  Brody got stuck, and was going into shock.  Julie gave the last big push and Brody came out with assistance from the vacuum.  All had seemed good with Brody. Then all of a sudden their nurse comes into the room balling her eyes out. The Doctors finally came in, and they told them that Brody's body was shutting down and his blood is being pulled from his vital organs to his head to clot the head trauma he just had. They had planned on transporting Brody to the Elliott then they changed it to Lebanon.  This happened only 2 hours after Julie gave birth.  They arrive at the Hospital in Lebanon only to hear the Doctor say " He probably won't make it through the night".  The Doctors came and went for hours, which had felt like days for Brandon and Julie. Brandon woke up from a cat nap to a nurse named Holly. She told them that Brody was stable!

Due to the high amount of swelling on the outer side of his skull and the breakdown of red blood cells create bilirubin, which is high levels that cause bad things to the brain.  So 2 days after Brody survives death, he begins his all time record breaking blood transfusions for a newborn. After about 30-40 transfusions in about 2 weeks he is finally dropping his bilirubin levels.

Brody after the jaundice was under the lights for a long time, so when he was finally able to see and be awake he didn't ever want to sleep or shut his eyes, incase he would miss something.

Brandon and Julies journey at Dartmouth Hitchcock Lebanon Hospital will end this week after surgery to put in a g-tube, so they can get him home and he can still get fed. All the Doctors and nurses at the Hospital were amazing!

During this time Brandon and Julie were staying in a hotel to be closer to Brody and the Hospital. You can only imagine the impact this has had on them. So I wanted to help them during this hard time. Anything contributed is greatly appreciated!
