Brody Matteson Tackles Cancer With Your Support
Donation protected
Our son Brody Matteson was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma two weeks before his 16th birthday. Brody had been complaining of back pain for about two months. Brody plays on the offensive line for Santa Margarita Catholic High School and we thought that it was just a normal part of playing football. When the pain became worse, we took him to the Dr. for an Xray and started physical therapy thinking it was a muscle strain. When the pain continued to worsen, the Dr. sent us for an MRI where they found a mass on his spine. We went directly to CHOC and within a few days they determined that the mass was cancerous. From that day, Brody has endured a continuous stream of biopsies, scans, and round one of chemotherapy.
Brody has been stronger during this time than anyone ever could be. He’s often said that he was glad it was him and not his younger brother and sister because he’s not sure they could handle it. It is his love for football, family, friends and faith that will get him through the next 8 months. Brody will be undergoing treatment at CHOC and Rady’s Children's Hospital in San Diego. He will have 17 rounds of chemotherapy and six weeks of radiation therapy. The Drs are optimistic that if all goes well, he will be back out on the football field in the future.
During the next eight months, Megan (his Mom) has taken a leave of absence from work to care for Brody throughout his treatment.
We appreciate all the support that we have received from our family, friends, coaches, school, and the SM football team.
All donations will go directly to the Matteson family bank account and be used for his medical costs including the hotel costs for his six week stay in San Diego for radiation. Please continue to keep Brody in your prayers as he beats this cancer. Thank you for your support. #BSTRONG
