At Bronx Park Middle School, our year ends with "Flow Week," a week of experiential learning. During Flow Week, each advisory sets off into the city to make meaning of a subject through hands-on inquiry.
The theme of my "Flow Week" for my 8th-grade girls is Arts in the City. At my school, the students only have only 10 classes of music for the whole year. We provide no extracurricular activities for dance, singing, and or drama. Even though my girls love all three of those things.
Art is necessary and important. Most of the girls going on this trip have never been to a musical, let alone a show on Broadway. It would be my great honor to be able to experience the power of a live show with them for the first time.
My students are funny, vivacious, loud, and MUSICAL. Every day they want to listen to music, sing, and dance during advisory. I want them to experience the arts live right in our city.
I would be extremely thankful to anyone who plays a small part in making this happen for my 40 students. I can't imagine a more exciting way to end the school year and send them off for the summer! Thank you!!
