Bro. Ken Johnson's Medical Expenses
Donation protected
12/6/18 - It has been a while since we posted an update.
After chemo, radiation & another colonoscopy - it was found that all that's left of the tumor is a small ulcerated area. No surgery at this time! He started a cycle of chemo where he takes a higher dose of chemo pills for 2 weeks & has I.V. chemo the 3rd week. He will do this for 4 months, then another colonoscopy to see if surgery will be needed.
The I.V. chemo isn't pleasant - leaving him painfully sensitive to anything cold for several days afterwards.
Please continue to pray that he tolerates thr chemo & stays healthy! Thank you all so much for the words of encouragement, the prayers & donations!
9/27/18- Thank the Lord his radiation & chemo are done for now. He is still having a lot of neurothopy in his hands & feet, though. Next step will be surgery in 6 weeks oe so. Thank you for all of the prayers!! Please keep them coming! 9/22/18 - Just 2 more radiation treatments to go! The chemo ia really taking it's toll & he is experiencing quite a bit of pain. Please pray for him! His co-workers are selling t-shirts as a fundraiser for him! The orders are due 10/5. Feel free to contact us if you would like to order! Thank you for the prayers, donations & support! 9/14/18 - Another change in plans. Due to painful neuropathy in his feet & hands and also due to the multiple lesions on him, the doctor wants him to stop the Chemo pills for this weekend. We are praying this is just a small set back. He should have just 1 week or so of Chemo and radiation left. Please keep him in your prayers. A few of his co-workers are selling t-shirts & long sleeved t-shirts as a fundraiser for him. I can get you an order form, if you would like to order. 8/21/18 - There has been a slight change in plans. He started his Chemo and radiation treatments today. Today was the first step towards cancer free! 8/8/18 - After meeting with the Oncologist, Dr. Moore, we have a treatment plan. He will take have radiation therapy 5 days a week for 5 1/2 weeks, along with Chemo pills twice a day every day for 5 1/2 weeks. He will rest for 6 weeks, then have surgery to remove the tumor & affected lymph nodes. 4-6 weeks after surgery, he will start a 15 week course of Chemo. We are hopeful he will be cancer free by the time he is finished with the treatment plan in April. Unfortunately, this puts him into next year, where another large deductible will have to be paid, again. Please continue the prayers, share this page & donate if you can. We can't say "Thank You!" enough to those keeping us in their prayers & those who have donated! 8/5/18 - A huge Thank You to all of those who have donated!! We feel so blessed to be loved by our family & friends! Please keep the prayers coming, we meet with the Oncologist on Wednesday. Love you all! 7/24/18 - The MRI results came back today & not the news we were hoping to hear. His cancer is stage 3B. They could see a couple of the lymph nodes were swollen which could indicate it has spread to them. The Doctor's office is setting up an appointment with an oncologist and we will go from there. Thank you again, to all who have donated. We appreciate you so much! We need your prayers, please. 7/18/18 - Please keep my Papa in your prayers. He will have an MRI on Friday to find out what stage the cancer is in. We hope to have the results back early next week. Please continue to share! 7/13/18 - The pathology report has come back in & the cancer is an Adenocarcinoma. Late last night, Papa had a CT scan to see if it has spread to his lungs. Thank the Lord, his scan was clear. He also got to come home from the hospital today. The next step is to get an MRI to find out what stage the cancer is in and to see if it has spread. Thank you for your support & prayers! Keep them coming, please! 7/11/18 Today, my Papa was supposed to have the surgery to remove the section of colon that has the cancer. Unfortunately, when the surgeon got in the colon, he discovered that the tumor is actually in the rectum, not the colon. Rectal cancer has to be treated differently. So, the surgeon took some biopsies. We should get the pathology report back next week. Next, he will need an MRI, then chemo and/or radiation. After that, he will back to surgery to remove the cancer. This was unexpected news & we feel like we're back to square one. Also, comes the financial worries. We ask for & appreciate your prayers! Thank you family & friends, we love you all! On June15th, my Papa, Bro. Ken Johnson, was diagnosed with colon cancer & will be undergoing surgery on July 11th. While the doctors are guardedly optimistic that surgery will be all he needs, only after surgery will we know what treatments, if any, are needed. With the large insurance deductible and the high costs of his surgery, care & treatments, the medical bills will be quite high. My Papa is a very caring man, seldom taking time to see to his own health & needs. He spends most of his days comforting terminally ill patients & their families as a hospice chaplain. He is also the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Chaffee, MO. We have set up this page as a way for those who love him to offer uplifting and comforting words as he fights this cancer. If you feel led to make a donation, please know that it is very appreciated & we love you all in return!
