Britton’s Open Heart Surgery

Donation protected
BY FAR THE HARDEST THING I HAVE EVER HAD TO TYPE!

On March 20th, we were getting ready to go out for a nice day with Britton to enjoy my birthday. As we were getting dressed I decided to bring Britton to the Dr because I didn’t like the way she was acting (really cranky). Everything checked out well at her pediatrician’s office. While we were getting Britton dressed to leave the Dr office the Dr noticed that she was breathing pretty fast and didn’t like what she saw. She immediately told us to take Britton to the ER. We took Britton to WakeMed ER to find out that our baby girl had an enlarged heart. We were immediately sent to Duke for further investigation and testing. Shortly before we arrived at Duke Britton’s breathing started to decline. Once she arrived at Duke they took the necessary steps to give Britton what she needed to stabilize her. All of this is news to our ears! We are still in SHOCK! Britton’s open heart surgery was successful, but there is still a LONG road ahead for our “beans”. She is being supported by a much needed medical device called ECMO- which gives support to her heart and lungs.

Britton has a very very rare heart defect called ALCAPA (the acronym). ALCAPA is not detected via pregnancy or even weeks or up to a month after birth. ALCAPA is usually detected between 2-6 months of a baby’s life when being brought to their dr office for check ups. THIS DEFECT IS OFTEN MISTAKEN FOR SIDS OR BEING COLICKY. ALCAPA is not a genetic heart defect. 1 in 300,000 lives are effected by ALCAPA. I am thankful for the medical providers that have been doing such great work with our baby girl.

WE ARE THANKFUL TO GOD FOR SAVING OUR BABY’S LIFE!

Thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to read Britton’s story. Thank you SO MUCH in advance for every prayer, donation, and support sent. Your donations will help support our family in this time of need as we will be out of work for some time and will need help with supporting Britton’s medical needs.

Please please please pay close attention to your babies! This could have easily been missed AND HAVE BEEN missed with other families. Please keep us in your prayers ❤️
