Hello my name is Brittany Harris In 2020, my life changed forever. I lost my six-year-old son Tairaz Moore to gun violence….and honestly, it’s a pain that no mother should ever have to experience. There are days it still feels unreal.
But even through that, I made a decision that I wasn’t going to let tragedy be the end of my story.
I’m a mother of two, and everything I do is for my children. Even when life felt heavy and overwhelming, I kept pushing. My determination and strength have been evident by choosing to continue my education. In 2025, I graduated from Macomb Community College. That moment meant everything to m not just because I earned a degree, but because I proved to myself that I can keep going no matter what!
Right now, I’m continuing my journey at Wayne State University. I’m studying public affairs with a minor in urban studies, my current GPA Is a 3.3. My long term goal is to go to law school. I want to advocate for communities like; communities that face real challenges such as violence, lack of resources, and inequality.
I’m already doing that work as a youth advocate, pouring into young people and trying to guide them in a better direction. Giving back isn’t just something I say it’s something I live for.
But I’ve reached a point where I need help. As a nontraditional student and single mother, I’ve exhausted my grants and financial aid. With rising tuition costs and limited funding, I’m struggling to keep going. I only have about a year and a half left, and I’m so close but financially, I’m stuck.
I’m asking for help raising $15,000 to cover my remaining tuition at Wayne State University. This is bigger than just school for me. This is about finishing what I started, creating a stable future for my children, and honoring my son’s life by turning my pain into purpose.
If you can donate, I truly appreciate it. And if you can’t, even sharing my story means everything to me.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and support me in any way you can.
Brittany Harris.
